ELEVATED TRADITIONAL

BONAVISTA 12

Allow us to introduce you to Bob and Barb.

Situated in the sought-after community of Bonavista, this 2300 square foot home became the ideal choice for Bob and Barb, along with their two children. While the location was perfect, the home presented challenges with its primarily original condition, necessitating structural changes to align with the family's needs and lifestyle.

The existing narrow staircase, inconveniently placed through the mudroom, and the small kitchen and segmented main floor living area posed obstacles. Additionally, the foyer's direct connection to the living area lacked the desired separation.

Our transformative approach involved relocating the staircase to the front entrance, creating a captivating focal point on the main floor, and introducing a clear division between the foyer and living space. Walls were removed on the main floor, fostering an open and airy ambiance in the kitchen, dining room, and living room. A substantial mudroom, complete with added storage, was incorporated behind the kitchen to address the family's storage requirements.

Executing a comprehensive overhaul, we stripped the home back to its studs, integrating new mechanical systems. Remarkably, we achieved this transformation without adding square footage, leveraging the existing space intelligently. Exterior enhancements, including roof details, were thoughtfully introduced to add visual interest while complementing the community.

The result is nothing short of perfection—continue scrolling to delve into Bob and Barb's firsthand experience with Crafted Edge Homes!

BEFORE RENOVATION

Brad and Brenda L - Home Owners

How/why did you pick Crafted Edge Homes?

We knew we needed someone to take the reigns on our complete “back to the studs” renovation project.  Crafted Edge Homes shared what they could do for us and the expertise they would bring to the table.  Their experience and connections in Calgary’s homebuilding industry were key considerations in our decision to partner with Crafted Edge Homes for our renovation.

What was your experience like?

Working with Crafted Edge Homes was a great experience.  It was a big project for us, and they led us through the myriad of construction steps and decisions to get a very quality job done within our timelines and to our preferences.  We could not have had the degree of success we had without their knowledge and support.

Which room in your home gave you the biggest challenge?

Moving the kitchen and designing it was one of our biggest challenges.  We had a lot of options and the Crafted Edge Homes team was very flexible and helpful in going through our ideas and reaching a final decision – including the technical aspects of getting the right (and quiet) hood fan for the 6 burner gas cooktop we had chosen.  Their recommendation to add a double sliding door from the dining area out to our back deck brought the outdoors in, and something we really enjoy.  It turned out great.

How was the process during the renovation?

The process was collaborative and well coordinated by the Crafted Edge Homes team.  We were routinely informed of the progress on our renovation and if issues came up we were quickly informed.  We could call or just show up onsite and the crew was knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer any questions and provide updates.  Todd also kept us up to date on what was coming down the pipeline so we had time to make decisions to support the lead times required for the coordination of permits, trades, deliveries, installations, etc.

Favourite part of your renovation?

Crafted Edge Homes’ willingness to come along this journey with us was so valuable.  We ended up doing a bit more than we initially planned, like finishing the interior of the garage, residing and reroofing the house, and adding a backyard deck.  The team was onboard and worked these into the project.

As far as the renovation is concerned, our favourite parts include the following, all of which were Crafted Edge Homes’ recommendations

-extended the front entry 6 ft further out

-added false roof dormers to accent the roofline

-moved the stairway and widened it

-quality cabinetry (mudroom, living, kitchen, laundry room)

-heated floors in our basement bathroom

Service after the renovation was completed?

We had no problem contacting Crafted Edge Homes regarding a couple of follow-up items after moving in. They were prompt and resolved any concerns.

Any final comments or stories you’d like to share?

We are always reminded of the quality of work by Crafted Edge Homes’ crew just looking at the finishing touches (such as baseboards, casings, closets and  shelving) – the quality it there inside and out.
