Home Trends On Their Way Out in 2024

We talk a lot about what trends you should be looking out for, and what elements you should include in your home – but what about the ones you SHOULDN’T?

Design trends change with each year that goes by, and it can seem overwhelming to continue to keep up with them all. You don’t have to re-do your home every year, but knowing what is coming in and what is going out – BEFORE you start a project can keep your home up to date for a lot longer.

There are some major home trends that have been around for a while, and we FOR SURE want to say buh-bye to! So, what home design trends you should avoid implementing into your home going into 2023 and 2024?

ALL WHITE EVERYTHING

All white has had its moment. Yes, it can be striking and beautiful… and a bit boring. Going into 2023/2024, we are embracing more colour, more tones, and more WARMTH. Nothing is less inviting that walking into a space with absolutely no colour anywhere…what if you spill something?

Going into 2023/2024 it’s time to play with different hues of colour, warmer neutrals and a mix of woods or accents. This is where you get to play a little bit with what suits your style the most – and give your home some personality!

SUBWAY TILE

In every cookie-cutter home in the past 5 or more years, you will be able to spot the subway tile. Sure – it’s an easy choice since it goes with just about anything but doesn’t leave a lot of interest at all. It now has become a little overdone, and we are looking for more contrast and interest to your backsplash, especially in a custom home!

Try going for something different. Play with textures and tones, get creative (have you heard of a mirror backsplash)?

LIVING ROOM TVS

This is a hard one to swallow, we get it there are some good shows out there. However, we are moving towards more conversation and making a space to chill, entertain, and be a family. Try adding a great piece of art, some stonework, or any other eye-catching design element so a TV isn’t needed in that space!

Try moving your TV into the basement, bonus room, or a TV-appropriate place, and move the TV out of the main living room. If there is nowhere else to put it, grab a frame TV, so it can act as a piece of art when you are not using it. This way it’s not an eyesore, a 50-inch black box in the middle of your beautifully designed living room.

Overall, we are headed towards a MUCH MORE INTERESTING time for home design, where there is color, texture, warmth, and visual interest, doesn’t that sound way more fun?
